Observation

By Vander

Take a good look at this path,

It’s the perfect symbology.

Life is always pretty straight forward,

With no apology, but formed solidly.

Despite maybe not understanding why,

Or the placement of things,

Adaptation seems to be demanding, right?

It points to seek growth within expanding life.

And taking steps bring more potential

Than just standing might.

But that’s why we should look to nature,

Because there’s nothing stagnant.

The epitome, if there could ever be,

A production magnet.

Oh, the contemplation.

Take everything you’ve ever known about,

It’s a lot to base with.

But it’s all projected by the same catalyst

That we got our names with.

Observations.

And everything draws from that.

Within the nature of life’s expression,

There could never be a thoughtless act.

Every outcome’s a response to action

With a reason to accomplish that,

So upon this path,

Let this be a message to always,

Walk intently. Confidently.

Life is not to simply be disregarded,

There’s no mediocrity.

The smallest of detail will always lead to

The larger picture.

You cannot depict the self without the other.

Meet the Poet – Vander

My journey with poetry started way before I wrote my first poem. I started with short story writing when I was four years old. Always nonsensical, heavy fiction influence but with a positive message somewhere.

Fast forward to fourth grade, the school I attended was having a school wide poetry contest. With it being K-8, the competition was vast and it was my first time attempting one.

I wound up winning it, and never wrote another short story again. It became part of the mold of my cadence and expression.

In my twenties I moved to California where I discovered spoken word and the performance element to poetry. One of my biggest moments of growth was performing at Da Poetry Lounge in downtown L.A, it’s renowned for being one of the largest open mics in the nation. I believe there were 150 people in that room that night.

But it was at that place where I was given the push to try my turn with hip-hop, specifically battle-rap. I also dove into song writing and have some significant co-signs from features by Joell Ortiz from the group SlaughterHouse, and Stevie Stone from Tech N9ne’s Strange Music label.

Once I came back home I combined all my different elements of poetry and hip-hop and created a hybrid of the genres. I love word play and flow, double entendres and emotional expression are also part of my cadence.

I like to write thought provoking and moving material that you can relate to. Or that you’ve been curious about. Relativity has variety ya know.
